Culture defined as a way of life of a group of people. It's complex which includes art, belief, morals, values etc that will show different colours among society. It is important for us to learn about other culture especially when we are planning to go holiday abroad or overseas for business works. Why? Because other than to obtain knowledge itself, we can adapt well and it will help us a lot of things other than just wanna have fun or just for your sake of works schedule. I will share some stories that my Mandarin lecturer shared about his friend(Mr X) who needs to make a deal with his business partners from China. However, after Mr X had dinner with his client his business deals turned off. Why? This is because during dinner Mr X and his client made a toast. However, Mr X's glass was higher than his client. In China, if you want to ask for favour/help from someone, or older persons, or someone you respect(seniors, prominent people, your boss) you need to lower your glass when you make a toast which means that you respect them.
Other than that, in Korea, when you know how to speak Korean you need to be careful in terms of using formal n non-formal words. My friend told me that her friends had a vacation in Korea but there were some bad experiences bcoz the bus driver got mad when they said: "ahjussi palli"( Sir, please faster). The bus driver told them that "if you speak to the older person than you, you need to use formal words as you respect them". Formal words have "yeo" or "da" such as when you're about to say thank you to senior/older person/stranger you need to say kamsahamnida not gomawo. Use "Palliejuseyo" not "palli", use "Arrasoyo" not"arraso". This shows that manner is one of the important things in life. Even in Malaysia, like Malay we need to lower our posture(tunduk wku berjalan) when we are walking in front of elders that means respect. So, make sure do some research about other culture when you are going abroad for holiday or work. Have a good day n I hope tht it's not too late to wish xinnian kuai le ;)
